Trying to lose weight?
Finding it difficult?
Here are a few tips which will
help you to shed the pounds easily
and effectively.
The first rule is to follow a healthy
eating plan. Please note that I
said healthy eating plan and NOT
a calorie controlled diet.
It is now becoming scientifically
clear that fad diets not only don’t
work, but they can also cause yo-yo
dieting, which according to some
leading physicians, can be extremely
dangerous and, in the long term,
bad for your health.
Here are a few pointers to help
you to manage your weight and shed
those pounds:-
• Write down the reasons
you have for wanting to lose weight
and clearly identify the reasons
for your commitment. Don’t
just include feelings about your
appearance. Try to include other
reasons. For example, ‘Reaching
my ideal weight will help me to
feel fit enough to do more of the
things I want to do’. Then,
instead of concentrating on depriving
yourself of your favourite foods,
concentrate on the image of what
you want to achieve.
• Have goals. According to
research, losing 5-10% of your weight
is an ideal target. This can be
broken down into easier and more
manageable steps. For example, 4-5lbs
at a time.
• Whenever you feel hungry
– EAT
• Eat balanced, nutritional
meals. Do NOT follow
any fad diets that expect you to
control your lifestyle. Losing weight
should be natural and enjoyable.
• Eat slowly and savour every
mouthful.
• When you no longer feel
hungry – STOP EATING.
Eating slowly will help your body
to recognize when you feel full.
• Drink plenty of water throughout
your day. Thirst is often mistaken
as hunger.
• Drinking hot water can sometimes
help to speed up your metabolism
and burn more calories.
• Foods like bran cereal are
dense and will make you fuller because
your body cannot easily digest the
fibre.
• Foods like rice work very
well with liquids. Rice tends to
expand in your stomach making you
feel satisfied more quickly.
• Green tea can be a great
aid to losing weight. Try drinking
up to 5 cups a day. Research shows
that this can burn a massive 80
calories a day! It is believed the
antioxidant catechins in green tea
boost the metabolism and help to
burn fat.
• Spicy foods like chilli
sauce & mustard can also help
to shed those pounds. These foods
can increase your calorie burning
capacity by between 5 – 10%
for up to 2 hours after eating.
This is because they contain capsaicin
which helps to speed up the metabolism.
• Make it your aim to walk
at least 10,000 steps a day. If
you aim to walk briskly for a total
of 45 minutes each day you can burn
up to 2000 calories a week (250
to 300 calories a day). Recent research
shows that this level of daily activity
is most effective for weight control.
• Don’t forget that
exercise needn’t be hard work.
Find something that you enjoy doing
and do it regularly. Whether that
be dancing, swimming, walking or
something more energetic.
All of the above techniques should
make losing weight easier for you.
If you would like an extra boost,
there is a Weight Management Hypnotherapy
CD available which will help to
programme your mind to accept all
these positive changes naturally.
